A Gilgo Beach serial killers cold case suspect was charged. Case and investigation timetable

After a woman disappeared in 2010, investigators found 10 sets of human remains and began the search for a serial killer in the Gilgo Beach murders, which terrorized Long Island's South Shore for over a decade.

The investigation took a crucial turn when authorities accused New York architect Rex Heuermann, 59, with murder in relation to the deaths of three of the “Gilgo Four.”

In July, Heuermann was arrested. The Suffolk County District Attorney said he was indicted on one count of first-degree murder

 and one of second-degree murder in each of the three homicides, Melissa Barthelemy in 2009 and Megan Waterman and Amber Costello in 2010.

Not the killer, he informed his counsel. In Suffolk County Superior Court in Riverhead, New York, on August 1, 2023, accused Long Island serial murderer Rex A.

A source familiar with the case told CNN Sunday that the Gilgo Beach murder suspect, Heuermann, is set to face a fourth murder accusation.

Authorities have named Heuermann the main suspect in the 2007 disappearance and death of a fourth lady, Maureen Brainard-Barnes. The source did not indicate which victim he is anticipated to be charged with.

CNN has requested comment from Heuermann's attorney, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, and the police.

As they developed a case against Heuermann in early 2022, officials observed him and his family, taking DNA samples from their trash.
