Josh Allen and the Bills are ready to defeat Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were in the way Monday afternoon. Playing the playoffs on the road is difficult enough, but when the other team is determined to win the Super Bowl, it's even harder. The Buffalo Bills are on a quest, beating the seventh-seeded Steelers 31-17 to advance to the playoffs against the Chiefs.

The Bills with Josh Allen as quarterback are 3-1 versus the Chiefs in the regular season, but they have yet to beat them in the playoffs. In theory, the Bills have a fantastic chance to finally get this postseason monkey off their back this year.

Even though the Chiefs brought back the offense that won the Super Bowl last season, they haven't been the Chiefs fans have grown to know over the last five years. As his receivers have failed him down, Patrick Mahomes has done his best to keep this offense moving.

This attack is different from the last playoff game between the Bills and the Chiefs, when Mahomes drove the Chiefs down the field in 13 seconds for a game-tying field goal. The Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill had 11 receptions for 150 yards in that game, a level of output the Chiefs haven't seen at wideout all season.

Even if the Bills have their issues, they should be optimistic about winning and reaching the AFC championship game. These Chiefs are mortal, unlike earlier incarnations. After a 26-7 win against the Dolphins, the Bills have one of the league's finest defenses, but with a human cyborg at quarterback, they should be optimistic they can improve. Allen was their best player Monday, and they'll need him to do so again to beat the Chiefs on Sunday.

The Bills should be confident in their chances against Kansas City, but they still have injuries. The Bills lost cornerback Taron Johnson and linebacker Terrel Bernard Monday to the Steelers. With Matt Milano out for the season, Bernard has played well and Johnson is a top league do-it-all defensive back. Buffalo has been able to plug men in on defense all season and perform well, so Sean McDermott may be able to get the Bills moving again despite being short-handed.

This will be the Chiefs' first genuine road playoff game under Mahomes, a departure from the previous two. As difficult as Arrowhead Stadium is for Chiefs opponents, Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park gives the Bills a home-field edge they can finally exploit against their biggest foe. "We're going to need a fantastic atmosphere," Allen told reporters after the game of the Chiefs showdown.

Bills seasons are about these moments. If they have an exceptional quarterback, they should make the playoffs. A wild-card game versus the Steelers is simply a stop on their way to winning the Lombardi Trophy. It will be difficult, but this is the Bills' greatest chance to overcome this obstacle.
